Cape Town – Zimbabwe’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have taken a major hit just two weeks before their opening group stage match against Angola on 22 December, followed by games against Egypt and South Africa.
Star midfielder Marshall Munetsi suffered a muscle/calf injury while playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Wolves coach Rob Edwards confirmed he could be sidelined for at least six weeks, ruling him out of the AFCON and Wolves’ remaining fixtures this year.
“It’ll be weeks, I don’t know how many at the moment, but I think at the moment it’s looking like at least six weeks, I think,” FARPost quoted Edwards as saying.

“We think he’s pulled his calf but we don’t know the full details yet,” Edwards added, as per BBC Sport, cited by Kickoff.
Munetsi also missed Wolves’ recent 4-1 defeat to Manchester United, with Wolves still winless after 15 matches.
Other Zimbabwe players, including Khama Billiat and Walter Musona, will also miss the tournament.
🚨 Wolves boss Rob Edwards says midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who represents Zimbabwe, a team drawn in the same AFCON 2025 group as Bafana Bafana – could be out for at least six weeks, ruling him out of the tournament.

The Zimbabwe Football Association will be short in training camp as FIFA allows clubs to delay the departure of AFCON-bound players until 15 December.
Coach Marian Marinica is yet to announce his final squad, with Zimbabwe ranked the lowest in Group B, facing a tough challenge in Morocco.
We look forward to the official announcement of our official AFCON squad today. We wait with baited breath. Two of our star players Marshall Munetsi and Jordan Zemura are likely to be missing due to injury concerns.#bayawabaya pic.twitter.com/o4IHu3wuo1
