Cape Town – Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder and ex-Warriors captain Willard Katsande has urged the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to appoint South African coach Pitso Mosimane as the new head coach of the national team.
His call comes after the sacking of Michael Nees, who was dismissed after 14 months despite guiding Zimbabwe to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
Katsande expressed his support for Mosimane on social media, saying, “ZIFA, what are we waiting for? This man loves Zim players with all his heart.”
His post has gained wide support from fans who believe Mosimane’s experience could help revive the Warriors’ fortunes.
Mosimane, currently without a club, is one of Africa’s most successful coaches, having led Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, and Al Wahda to multiple titles.
He has often praised Zimbabwean players such as Khama Billiat, Marvelous Nakamba, and Marshall Munetsi for their professionalism and success abroad.
As Zimbabwe prepares for its AFCON campaign, beginning with a Group B clash against Egypt in December, pressure is mounting on ZIFA to consider Katsande’s suggestion.
