Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has struck a cautious yet confident tone as the club gears up to begin its 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign with an away fixture in Egypt.
Motaung Jr described the upcoming clashes against Al Masry in Suez and Zamalek at home as “two very important games … against tough opponents right at the start.”
Speaking to the club’s media department, he added, “We’re expecting a tough test in Egypt, which is well known for its passion for football.”
He stressed that his optimism was not simply blind faith. Motaung Jr said the squad had used the recent FIFA international break to regroup.
“Coming from the … break which we have used wisely, we are optimistic of giving our fans a good performance,” he said, noting that the technical team had extensively “researched and analysed” their Egyptian opponents, resulting in “a positive feeling within the camp regarding the task at hand.”

While acknowledging the pedigree of their group opponents, Motaung Jr. insisted that Chiefs are not just there to make up the numbers.
“Everyone in the group is playing to win … But we believe we pose a significant threat ourselves, and we are going out to get maximum points.”
He also expressed his pride at returning to continental competition and underlined the significance of the campaign for fans. “We are happy to bring continental football back to our fans and hope they enjoy the campaign.”
Chiefs landed in what many are calling a “group of death”—Group D—after being drawn alongside Egyptian powerhouses Al Masry and Zamalek, as well as ZESCO United of Zambia. Their first match up is scheduled for 23 November in Suez, with the Zamalek clash to follow at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
