Cape Town – Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Brian Baloyi believes Kaizer Chiefs have the players to win the 2025/26 Betway Premiership but need an experienced coach like Pitso Mosimane to unlock their full potential.
Chiefs are currently fourth after 13 matches, following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi and the temporary appointment of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
According to The South African, Baloyi criticised the inexperience of the current coaching duo, urging the club to quickly appoint a seasoned coach and a technical director familiar with South African football to guide the team through the season and minimize mistakes.
“The players we have right now, and you look at where we are, I’d say we have a team good enough to win the league, not just to finish second, third or fourth. These types of players we have now, I’d say give Pitso this team, then this team will win the league,” Baloyi said during an interview with SoccerBeat.
He added: “We have to be honest about their inexperience. These two coaches have never coached at the highest level; they have always been assistant coaches, and now they are coaching one of the biggest clubs on the continent.
“The club needs to make a decision quickly about the next man because clearly there’s no way they’ll keep them next season. You need to bring an experienced technical director, who will help them finish the season, if they are going to finish the season because they are going to make a lot of mistakes.”
However, according to The Citizen, however, Mosimane has made it clear he will not apply for the Kaizer Chiefs job, despite widespread calls from supporters for his appointment.
“You must remember that at the point I am, I don’t apply for jobs and that’s not being egoistic. It’s about the plan and you must show me the plan,” the report quoted him as saying.
The three-time CAF Champions League winner, who is currently unattached, believes his track record warrants being approached directly rather than submitting an application.
“As I’m talking to you today, there’s a possibility that anytime from now I might have a club. Almost every second week, there’s a team that’s available and asks if we can work together,” Mosimane said.
He emphasised that any potential role must come with a clear plan and challenge, noting that while he has opportunities in Africa and the Gulf region, he remains open to returning to the Betway Premiership if the right conditions are presented.
“I mean, you can’t tell me that in Africa, there’s no team I can’t coach and even in the Gulf region I do have options, but it must be proper and challenging for me.”
