Durban – Former president Jacob Zuma has formed a Presidential Task Team (PTT) to help run the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, with his son Duduzane Zuma included among its members.
The move has raised speculation that Duduzane could be positioned for a senior leadership role.
Zuma said the committee would act as his “eyes and ears” as the party expands and he manages increasing responsibilities, including consultations at his Nkandla homestead.
“We are a big organisation. The president has a particular role to play in the organisation and, besides just working here, I have to be moving, going this side and that side,” said Zuma.

“It was very clear to me that without having a committee that can do things while I am doing other things and be able to reach places that I cannot reach… they must also see if things are going well.”
The PTT’s creation comes while deputy president John Hlophe remains suspended amid allegations of making unilateral decisions within the party.
Zuma also recently appointed ANC veteran Tony Yengeni as a second deputy president, citing the need for additional support as the MK Party prepares for upcoming local government elections.
Duduzane’s involvement is also linked to claims he has assisted with fundraising, while his sister Duduzile recently stepped down from parliament and is facing separate allegations related to recruiting South Africans for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
