Durban – UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party deputy president Dr John Hlophe has been reinstated as the party’s first deputy president and parliamentary leader with immediate effect.
The decision was made by party president Jacob Zuma following a legal panel’s investigation into allegations regarding Hlophe’s conduct.
Hlophe had been placed on precautionary suspension after internal disputes over leadership decisions in Parliament, including changes to the chief whip position made without broader consultation.

After reviewing the panel’s findings and holding discussions with Hlophe, Zuma approved his return to leadership.
“The suspension of Dr Hlophe arose out of matters that necessitated the President to appoint an independent legal panel, led by an Advocate, to investigate allegations levelled at Hlophe and make recommendations to the President on the necessary course of action,” party secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo said in a statement.
The party has called for unity and urged members to support Hlophe as he resumes his duties.
