“We conveyed our warm regards to his father, US President @realDonaldTrump, and affirmed our commitment to fostering enhanced US–Zambia relations.”
The encounter comes as the US confirmed it will skip the upcoming G20 summit in Johannesburg, prompting analysts to call Washington’s absence a “diplomatic setback” for South Africa.
Pretoria, however, has said the summit will continue with full participation from other member states.
Observers view the meeting as a form of soft diplomacy, highlighting Zambia’s stability and growing confidence as a partner for Western investment and tourism.
The G20 summit, the first hosted on African soil, will focus on energy transition, trade reform, and debt relief for developing countries.
