Johannesburg – The EFF has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to carry out a 2023 parliamentary resolution to sever diplomatic ties with Israel and close its embassy.
That motion — passed after a heated debate — was amended by the ANC to make any embassy closure temporary, lasting only until a ceasefire and UN-mediated talks produce a just, sustainable outcome.
In 2023, the EFF stood for Palestine in Parliament by introducing a motion to cut diplomatic ties with Israel, and it was passed. However, till today Ramaphosa has not implemented this resolution to close the Israeli embassy in South Africa.

This come after nearly 500 activists detained by Israeli authorities during a humanitarian flotilla to Gaza.
The flotilla, which included Mandla Mandela, Greta Thunberg, aimed to deliver aid and show solidarity with Palestinians under Israel’s blockade.
According to SABC News, EFF Head of International Relations Nqobile Mhlongo condemned Israel’s naval interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, saying the activists — carrying baby formula, nappies, food and medicine — posed no threat and should not have been attacked.
“We are really worried about the people who are part of the Sumud Flotilla who have now been captured by the apartheid Israeli forces, while they are carrying hope for millions of people in Gaza. Those people in the Sumud Flotilla were carrying only baby formula, disposable nappies, food and medication. How then do you attack such people who are not posing a threat to anybody?,” the report quoted Mhlongo as saying.
