Cape Town – Veteran CapeTalk host John Maytham has slammed Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, over his resurfaced racist tweets and alleged poor performance in office.
McKenzie, leader of the Patriotic Alliance, is under fire after past posts allegedly using racial slurs, including the k-word, resurfaced, prompting condemnation from the South African Human Rights Commission.
On air, Maytham said he would not be intimidated by McKenzie, criticising his party’s rise as driven by voter desperation rather than genuine support.
“I’m not intimidated by you, even though others might be.
“Unfortunately, I think it is true that your party is growing, and part of the reason… is that people are desperate for the kind of strongman lies that you tell them.”
He also accused McKenzie of being a “useless minister” in arts and culture, citing broken promises, and ended with a sharp dismissal, saying his life is happier when he speaks less about the minister.
“The less I talk about Gayton McKenzie, the happier I go to sleep,” Maytham said.
