Cape Town – Former MK Party secretary general Floyd Shivambu has called on progressive South Africans to volunteer in shaping a possible new political movement.
This appeal comes just a day after his name was notably absent from the MK Party’s updated parliamentary list, despite earlier expectations that he would be deployed to the National Assembly.
The party has announced nine new MPs who will fill its vacant seats in Parliament: Lungisani Shangase, Jefrey Mtolo, Zibuse Cele, Siphetho Mkhize, Philisande Mkhize, Kaiser Motaung, Noma Buthelezi, Ntandoyenkosi Shezi, and Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala. They are expected to be sworn in on Wednesday.

Contrary to initial assumptions, Shivambu is not among those selected for redeployment.
Despite mounting speculation, Shivambu has confirmed he will not be leaving the MK Party or forming a new political party at this stage. Instead, he plans to engage with community leaders across the country to explore the potential for a new progressive movement focused on the total emancipation of black people — Africans in particular.
In a video posted on Sunday, Shivambu expressed gratitude for the messages of support he has received since his Thursday press conference, and encouraged those interested in contributing to register as volunteers.
Thank you to the people of South Africa and everyone who’s shown interest in the establishment of a new political movement in South Africa.

“We humbly request those who want to be part of this process to submit their details,” he said, providing a WhatsApp number for those wishing to get involved.
While Shivambu has ruled out returning to the EFF or joining the ANC, the prospect of another political party on the ballot has sparked debate.
