Cape Town – A total of 257 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members have returned home from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with more expected soon.
These troops were part of a Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission involved in a conflict between the Congolese army and M23 rebels, which lasted three years until a ceasefire in April.

On Friday, 249 troops landed at Waterkloof Air Force Base and were sent to Bloemfontein for debriefing and counselling.
SANDF plans to repatriate all personnel and equipment by the end of June, with flights occurring every second day.
Defence Minister Angie Motshekga and SANDF leadership hailed the mission as a success, citing contributions to regional peace.
