WATCH | Ramaphosa says he feels ‘abused’ during EFF clash

Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa’s question session in the National Assembly was disrupted on Tuesday by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs, who objected to the presence of personal protectors in the public area of the chamber.

According to EWN, the EFF raised repeated points of order over armed security near ANC MPs, leading to a 30-minute disruption and the removal of several EFF members from both the physical and virtual platforms by Deputy Speaker Annelie Lotriet.

The disruptions prevented Ramaphosa from answering all the scheduled questions, including those on South Africa’s diplomatic stance on the Russia-Ukraine war and the MK Party’s inquiry into Truth and Reconciliation Commission cases.

Ramaphosa expressed feeling “abused” during the session.

“Honourable deputy speaker, I must say I feel abused. I really do feel abused,” the president said.

Ramaphosa’s remarks prompting a sharp retort from the EFF’s Sinawo Tambo.

“You didn’t feel like that when Trump was abusing you in the White House. Why didn’t you feel abused in the White House? You are abused by your own colleagues in South Africa… It’s wrong what you are doing president,” he said.

Lotriet referred the matter to Parliament’s Powers and Privileges Committee, citing legal interference in the house’s proceedings.
