Johannesburg – National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on Wednesday defended his decision to place Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya on a leave of absence following corruption allegations from KZN Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Sibiya challenged the move in the Gauteng High Court, seeking reinstatement and to block disciplinary action, arguing the decision was unlawful.
Masemola’s counsel, Advocate Stefan Coetzee, said the leave was not a suspension but a precautionary step to allow a transparent investigation.
He stressed the seriousness of the allegations and dismissed claims that Masemola was acting as “judge, jury and executioner,” assuring that an impartial arbitrator would oversee the matter.
The court has reserved judgment on Sibiya’s urgent application.
