Cape Town – Former President Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela, has joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian maritime mission of over 40 boats from 44 countries, sailing to Gaza to challenge Israel’s blockade.
The flotilla includes high-profile participants like Greta Thunberg and Susan Sarandon and carries humanitarian aid such as medical supplies and food.
Mandela said that a million people in Gaza are starving and called for urgent global action to end what the flotilla describes as genocide and international complicity in the siege.
“We have over 40 boats that we have been able to mobilise, with 44 countries that have come together. Ours is simply to end the blockade and break the siege on Gaza. We are bringing humanitarian aid, which is much needed by the Palestinians,” he said.
