Cape Town – ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has accused former US President Donald Trump of using fabricated claims about the “slaughter” of white farmers in South Africa to punish the country politically and economically.
Speaking during a media briefing at the ANC headquarters in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Mbalula criticised Trump’s decision to boycott the upcoming G20 Summit in Johannesburg, calling it based on lies and misleading narratives.
He also rejected Trump’s portrayal of South Africa as a communist state.
“The American administration of Donald Trump not taking part in the G20 is to communicate a message of seeking to punish our country, but unfortunately, the reasons they have chosen to punish us economically are incorrect – they are lies and fabricated,” he said.

Mbalula also highlighted inconsistencies in the US approach, noting that concerns about farm killings were not raised directly with Pretoria in prior discussions.
He emphasised that South Africa’s policies, including land reform and redress mechanisms like BBBEE, are constitutional and lawful.
Mbalula’s remarks come after Trump announced that no US government officials would participate in the G20 Summit, alleging “human rights abuses” in South Africa and claiming that white Afrikaner farmers are being “killed and slaughtered” and having their land “illegally confiscated.”

On his Truth Social account, Trump wrote: “It is a total disgrace that the G20 will be held in South Africa. Afrikaners, people who are descended from Dutch, and also French and German settlers, are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and farms are being illegally confiscated.
“No US government official will attend as long as these human rights abuses continue. I look forward to hosting the 2026 G20 in Miami, Florida.”
The Department of International Relations and Co-operation echoed this, dismissing claims of “white genocide” as baseless and unsupported by evidence, affirming that South Africa protects the rights of all citizens.
