Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump, calling him the “modern-day Adolf Hitler” after Trump boycotted the G20 summit in South Africa and urged other nations to do the same.
Trump also announced that South Africa would not be invited to the 2026 G20 summit in the US, basing his stance on disputed claims of “white genocide” against white Afrikaner farmers.
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday, Malema said Trump’s actions — including unilaterally inviting or excluding countries from the G20 — mirror authoritarian behaviour and threaten global stability.

“His attempt at unilaterally inviting and uninviting countries to the G20 simply because of his political interests further confirms the assessment that Donald Trump is the new Hitler that the world is faced with, and failure to recognise this reality will result in devastating consequences for the global political and economic order,” Malema said.
He insisted South Africa would fight to retain its place at next year’s G20 and praised President Cyril Ramaphosa for handling the diplomatic hostility “very successfully”.

“We are a founding member of the G20. We will mobilise international communities to condemn Trump’s actions.”
He added that Trump’s hostility towards South Africa had nothing to do with the EFF but with the government’s positions on Israel, including taking Israel to the International Court of Justice and aligning with Brics.
Julius Malema says the US and South Africa fallout won’t improve even if Donald Trump leaves office.
He argues US policy is driven by Israel, and as long as South Africa criticises Israel, America will treat it as hostile.

“It doesn’t matter what you say or do; the man has taken a decision to go against South Africa — not because of what the EFF says but because of the government’s position against Israel.”
