Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has declined a nomination to chair a new parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating serious allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The committee, established after a National Assembly report recommendation, met for the first time to elect a chair and begin its 90-day investigation, which may be extended if necessary.
Malema turned down a nomination from MK Party MP David Skosana to lead the ad hoc committee.

Mkhwanazi recently accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya of trying to dismantle a task team probing political killings to protect politically connected criminals.
In addition to the parliamentary probe, a separate judicial commission led by former acting deputy chief justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga has been set up to investigate these claims of political interference, corruption, and criminality within institutions like the SAPS, NPA, and SSA.
It will report findings over the next six months.
