East London – EFF leader Julius Malema and his former bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, faced the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday over charges of unlawfully possessing firearms and ammunition, linked to shots allegedly fired at the EFF’s 2018 fifth birthday rally in Mdantsane.
Video footage showed Snyman handing a rifle to Malema, who allegedly fired into the air.
The prosecution argued the shots endangered the crowd, while the defence claimed the rifle fired blanks and no live rounds were confirmed.

Both pleaded not guilty, and an attempt to have the case dismissed failed.
Magistrate Twanet Olivier postponed the verdict to Tuesday, citing the need to carefully review all trial details.
Legal experts, according to reports, suggest that if convicted, Malema could face a sentence of around three years, possibly partially suspended.
Justice is finally being served, Julius Malema thought he was above the law. This explains why he was up against South Africans, he predicted his own fate. He knew that he was going down.
