Durban – KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa “Thami” Ntuli has retained his position after surviving a motion of no confidence brought by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
The motion, debated in the provincial legislature, was disrupted by MK and EFF members who demanded a secret ballot, leading to chaotic scenes and scuffles with police, preventing a proper vote.

Despite the disruptions, Ntuli’s position was supported through an open ballot by his party, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), and provincial coalition partners — the ANC, DA, and NFP.
The motion, requiring 41 votes to succeed, fell short as the MK Party holds 37 seats and the EFF two.

The MK Party had accused Ntuli’s administration of poor performance, corruption, financial mismanagement, and misusing taxpayers’ money for a US trip for himself and his partner.
