Cape Town – Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu has sharply criticised South Africa’s main black opposition parties, particularly the EFF, calling them “directionless” and unfit to replace the ANC.
In an SABC interview on Wednesday, he said the ANC is “naturally dying” but no existing black political party offers a credible alternative to the country’s socio-economic crisis.
“The EFF is not an alternative to the crisis of South Africa. If anything, it will deepen the crisis. Why? Because it’s directionless and has adopted the exact mannerisms and habits of the ANC,” he said.
Shivambu accused the EFF of adopting corrupt practices, abandoning its founding values, and fostering a culture of self-enrichment within municipal governments.
Floyd Shivambu:
1. EFF members have same tendencies with ANC members
2. People are deployed for self enrichment purposes
3. Wrongdoing is protected in the EFF
4. We left the EFF because of self enrichment tendencies— MK Party Stan (@XFactor079) September 10, 2025
Shivambu acknowledged his own failure to act sooner, citing his adherence to democratic centralism over personal convictions.
His new movement promotes ethical governance, community-based development, and African renaissance principles, positioning itself as a disciplined, people-focused alternative.
Shivambu’s remarks are likely to intensify tensions with the EFF ahead of upcoming elections, though the party has dismissed his comments.
