Cape Town – Floyd Shivambu has been removed as secretary-general of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party following an internal investigation into his unauthorised trip to Malawi to visit fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri.
The visit was found to violate the party’s constitution, specifically Section 3(j), which prohibits unapproved international engagements that conflict with the party’s agenda.

The MK Party emphasized that the trip was neither sanctioned by Zuma nor the party, and it followed a court ruling in Malawi approving Bushiri’s extradition to South Africa.
In response to public concern, the MK Party has redeployed Shivambu to the National Assembly to bolster its parliamentary caucus.
Shivambu, who joined the MK Party in August 2024 after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters, has accepted the new role.
