Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately fire Police Minister Senzo Mchunu following serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Speaking on the sidelines of former president David Mabuza’s funeral service in Barberton, Mpumalanga, on Saturday, Malema said: “Well, the president should fire Mchunu immediately. Mchunu came with baggage. He is not old in the job, he’s very new, but already tainted.
“This is a man who went to that institution (police ministry) to go and do wrong things.

“If you want our people to have confidence in the police again, you have to fire the executive authority and then put an order. If they are generals that have misbehaved, the National Police Commissioner (Fannie Masemola) should act on those generals and then we will start dealing with crime.
“The role of the police is to deal with crime and not to connive with criminals.”
Mkhwanazi accused Mchunu of interfering in police work and protecting criminal networks, including disbanding the Political Killings Task Team in March 2025 and halting 121 active dockets, many linked to political assassinations.
Evidence presented by Mkhwanazi includes SAPS documents, chats, and cellphone data suggesting a coordinated effort to shield criminals, allegedly involving Mchunu’s ally, Brown Mogotsi, and businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
