Speaking after taking the oath of office at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday, Cachalia said his focus would be on restoring public trust in the police and improving the overall effectiveness of South Africa’s crime-fighting efforts.

His appointment follows the suspension of Senzo Mchunu, who was placed on an indefinite leave of absence after being implicated in corruption allegations.
Cachalia, a respected academic and former politician, affirmed his commitment to upholding the Constitution and leading the police ministry with dignity and accountability.
