Cape Town – Former president Thabo Mbeki has urged South Africans not to blame foreign nationals for the country’s problems, saying South Africans must take responsibility for their own challenges.

“It is not right that there are problems we have got to solve in this country…we have caused the problems,” he said.
Operation Dudula has faced criticism for stationing members at clinics to check patients’ documentation and warning schools not to prioritise undocumented foreign children — actions the group insists are legal.
Mbeki also reflected on his continued efforts to promote peace and stability in Africa, expressing concern over conflicts in countries such as Sudan.
He said Africa’s renaissance is a shared responsibility that requires unity and collaboration among all African nations.
Acknowledging the difficulty of offering guidance to current African leaders, Mbeki said he remains dedicated to advancing the African Renaissance and overcoming obstacles facing the continent.
