Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will hold a “VAT victory march” in Pretoria on Monday, starting at the Union Buildings and heading to National Treasury.
The march follows a recent court victory where the Western Cape High Court suspended a proposed VAT increase, a decision stemming from a joint legal challenge by the EFF and Democratic Alliance.
The EFF claims the VAT hike and the adoption of the fiscal policy were unlawful.
The march comes two days before Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana presents the national budget.
Roads affected include Stanza Bopape, Madiba, Paul Kruger, and Lilian Ngoyi.

“On 19 May 2025, the EFF will lead the #VATVictoryMarch to the National Treasury in celebration of the people’s victory against the anti-poor, proposed VAT increase,” the EFF said in a post on social media.
This marks a decisive victory for the people of South Africa — particularly the poor, the working class, and the unemployed — who would have borne the heaviest burden of such an unjust measure.
