Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa will face a Public Protector investigation following a complaint by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, led by his predecessor Jacob Zuma.
The complaint alleges abuse of power, improper conduct, and failure to act in the country’s best interests, citing violations of clauses 2.1 and 2.3 of the Executive Ethics Code.
According to The Citizen, the party shared a letter from Veronika Pillay, Acting Executive Manager of the Public Protector’s Investigations Branch, concerning Ramaphosa.
“Kindly be advised that the Public Protector has considered your submissions and will proceed to investigate your allegations in connection with abuse of power and/or improper conduct,” the report quoted Pillay as saying.

The MK party linked the allegations to the Phala Phala scandal, weakening oversight institutions, and misuse of state resources.
Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka has agreed to investigate.
In a Wednesday statement, the MK Party described the Public Protector’s move as an important step in holding Cyril Ramaphosa accountable for what they called the “ongoing ethical lapses” during his time in office.
“This investigation is essential to restoring credibility to the highest office in the Republic. No one, including the sitting President, should be above the law. We will cooperate fully with the Public Protector’s office and continue to hold the executive to account,” said MKP national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela, according to Jacaranda fm.
He added: “From the Phala Phala scandal to ongoing governance failures, South Africans deserve transparency, ethical leadership, and accountability at the highest level.
“This is about protecting our constitutional democracy. Accountability must apply equally to every citizen, including the President.”
