Johannesburg – Deputy leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) Kenny Kunene has returned to the Johannesburg city council after resigning in July.
He left the council and his post as transport MMC after being found at the home of murder accused Katiso “KT” Molefe, prompting a party suspension and a forensic probe.
The investigation cleared him, confirming he was there to arrange a journalistic interview.

Former DA MP Liam Jacobs, who had replaced Kunene, resigned to allow his return and will now contest as PA’s mayoral candidate in the Western Cape in 2026.
PA leader Gayton McKenzie led a campaign for Kunene’s reinstatement, even threatening to resign from the national unity government. Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero is expected to reappoint Kunene as MMC for transport soon.
