Cape Town – The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has dropped its threat that leader Gayton McKenzie would leave the Government of National Unity if Kenny Kunene was not reinstated to Johannesburg’s mayoral committee by the ANC.
Although Kunene has not yet returned, the PA described a recent meeting with the ANC as successful, focusing on broader Gauteng issues rather than just Kunene’s reinstatement.
Kunene said the meeting resolved any talk of McKenzie resigning or the PA withdrawing from coalitions, and that the ANC’s proposals will be reviewed before a follow-up response by Friday.
“But I think one must emphasise that this meeting has put to bed the issue of the resignation of the president [McKenzie] or us withdrawing from coalitions. It has put it to bed,” Kenene said while addressing supporters of his party on Facebook on Tuesday night, according to EWN.
