Cape Town – The ANC Women’s League has expressed strong support for President Cyril Ramaphosa amid claims of a plot to recall him.
Allegedly, efforts to remove Ramaphosa are reportedly gaining momentum within the party, with certain dissatisfied members pushing for his ousting.
But the league has condemned attempts that bypass established protocols.
Secretary-General Nokuthula Nqaba defended Ramaphosa’s record, citing successes in fighting corruption, addressing gender-based violence, and leading South Africa’s G20 presidency.
“The ANC Women’s League is outraged at the alleged plot by some ANC National Executive Committee members, who want to see the President removed from the office, probably in the next NE meeting to be convened on Monday, 01 December 2025,” Nqaba said in a statement.

“The ANC Women’s League would like to deposit its full confidence with all our structures in the leadership of the President, bot at Luthuli House and in the Union Buildings as leader of the Government of National Unity (GNU).”
She emphasised that only the ANC’s National General Council (NGC) or Elective National Conference (ENC) can decide on removing a sitting president, and the upcoming NGC is not intended for factional battles.
Ramaphosa himself reportedly told the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) that he is willing to resign — but only if the committee gives him a specific date on which he should step down.
According to SABC News, the president challenged his critics to stop plotting his exit “in dark corners like cowards”.
