In addition, the statement extended gratitude to President Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President Paul Mashatile, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) led by Minister Ronald Lamola, both deputy ministers Alvin Botes and Thandi Moraka, Cabinet Ministers, and the African National Congress’s National Executive Committee for their support during this difficult period.
The families described their assistance as a source of “strength” amid their mourning.
“As we await further clarity, we take solace in the unity and compassion shown by South Africans from all walks of life — mourning with us, honouring Nathi’s memory, and recognising his lifelong service to our nation,” the statement continued.
The families confirmed that once formal processes are complete, they will coordinate with DIRCO to bring Ambassador Mthethwa home for a memorial and funeral “worthy of his legacy.”
