Cape Town – Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene has reportedly threatened legal action against EFF MP Sinawo Thambo over posts on X (formerly Twitter) linking him to accused murderer Katiso “KT” Molefe.
Aording to The Citizen, in a letter of demand dated 11 October 2025, Kunene’s lawyers ordered Thambo to retract his posts and apologise within 48 hours, warning that failure to comply would result in civil litigation for defamation and damages.
The lawyers argue that Thambo’s posts — which claim Kunene paid Molefe’s R400,000 bail, gave him Rea-Vaya bus tenders, and was found twice at his home — are false, malicious, and damaging to Kunene’s reputation as a businessman and public official.
The legal dispute follows a heated parliamentary session where Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola told MPs that Kunene was seen at Molefe’s home twice during police investigations.
PA MP Ashley Sauls disputed the statement, accusing Masemola of “lying to the nation.”
Molefe, a PA member, is accused of murdering DJ Sumbody and two bodyguards while already out on bail for another murder case.
Thambo’s posts connected Kunene to Molefe’s alleged criminal dealings and criticised his reinstatement as Johannesburg MMC for Transport.
Kunene’s lawyers insist the posts have tarnished his image and caused public harassment, demanding that Thambo cease and desist from spreading defamatory claims.
Thambo has until 08:00 on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, to comply or face legal action.
