Johannesburg – Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero is facing yet another motion of no confidence, this time brought by the UDM, AIC and Al-Jama-ah after they withdrew from the ANC-led coalition.
The parties accuse Morero of poor service delivery, administrative instability and failing to consult coalition partners.
“Under Mayor Morero’s tenure, Johannesburg has experienced one of its most difficult periods of administrative instability and service delivery collapse,” EWN quoted UDM councillor Yongama Zingebe as saying.
The vote comes at a crucial time, with the ANC’s heated regional conference — where Morero is contesting leadership against Loyiso Masuku — set to begin on Wednesday.
The two-day council sitting means the motion could run into the start of the conference, making this a decisive week for Morero’s political future.
Meanwhile, The Citizen reports that Morero appears to have survived the no confidence after minority governing parties (MGP) withdrew their bid at the last minute.
Coalition partners agreed to resolve disputes internally rather than through motions, the report said
