Cape Town – International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola says that if the issue of Afrikaner persecution arises during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, South Africa will present evidence showing that white Afrikaners are not being persecuted.
According to SABC News, Lamola emphasised that South Africa’s Constitution protects all residents equally and that police statistics do not support claims of targeted persecution against Afrikaners.
He noted the country’s constitutional commitment to transformation, which benefits the entire nation.
“America is South Africa’s second trading partner, and also we are the number one trading partner for the U.S. in the continent, so there’s a need to reset bilateral relations…”

Lamola said that the meeting aims to reset and strengthen the strategic relationship between South Africa and the US, with the US being South Africa’s second-largest trading partner and its top partner on the African continent.
“The President is aware of that and is ready. For us, it’s about the reset of the strategic relationship between the two countries, which is very important. It’s our second biggest trading partner. We are the number one trading partner on the continent. So there is a need for us to reset relations,” said Lamola.
