Cape Town – EFF MP Carl Niehaus has again criticised golfer Gary Player for comments perceived as racially insensitive.
This follows Player’s earlier calls to ban transformative policies like Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and land expropriation.
Niehaus accused Player of being a “horrible racist man” and “tone deaf,” pointing to a social media post where Player promoted a luxury South African game reserve, noting that “African staff welcomes you with indigenous songs.”
“This horrible racist man @garyplayeri s totally tone deaf. He does not even realize the racist undertones of this patronizing message that he posted: ‘When you arrive here, the African staff welcomes you with indigenous songs to set the mood. It’s incredibly special and pure bliss. GP” – Those phrases “African staff”, and “indigenous songs’, are so telling! He is actually telling the white “European”colonist tourists that the black slaves will serenade them, and they will blissfully enjoy it…. Can it actually get any worse??
