Cape Town – A fifth group of 258 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers has returned from the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), landing in Bloemfontein on Friday, 20 June 2025.
The troops had been deployed in North Kivu since December 2023 as part of a SADC peacekeeping mission.
Their withdrawal follows a ceasefire between the M23 rebel group and the DRC military.
More SANDF soldiers are expected to return soon.
The fifth repatriation flight, bringing SANDF troops back from the SAMIDRC mission in the DRC, has just landed in Bloemfontein.
