Johannesburg – City of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero is set to face another motion of no confidence when the metro council meets on Thursday.
The motion was tabled by Al Jama-ah and other minority parties and was postponed for a week to allow the speaker to seek legal advice on a request for a secret ballot vote.
The outcome is expected to test the relationship between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Tensions escalated after Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xakaza removed EFF councillors from two mayoral committee positions and replaced them with ANC councillors, prompting the EFF to threaten withdrawing support for the ANC in council and provincial votes.
The ANC, EFF, Patriotic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and other minority parties currently form the government of local unity in Johannesburg.
