Johannesburg – Crime Intelligence boss Major General Dumisani Khumalo is seeking a relaxation of his bail conditions so he can return to work.
Khumalo and several high-ranking SAPS officials, including Major Generals Philani Lushaba, Nosipho Madondo, Josias Lekalaka, Zwelithini Gabela, and Brigadiers Phindile Ncube and Dineo Mokwele, face charges linked to the irregular appointment of Mokwele as a brigadier and breaches in vetting processes within the Crime Intelligence division.
The accused were granted bail ranging from R10,000 to R20,000, with strict conditions barring them from Crime Intelligence offices and contact with witnesses.

Their case has been postponed to September 8, 2025.
Khumalo, Madondo, Lekalaka and Mokwele have applied to have their bail conditions reviewed, a move opposed by the state.
Meanwhile, Parliament’s portfolio committee chair Jan de Villiers has called for an urgent audit of Crime Intelligence staff and the Secret Services Account, warning of possible irregular appointments, ghost employees, and financial abuse.
He stressed that restoring accountability and public trust in the division is critical for effective intelligence-led policing.
