Cape Town – Former Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink has been announced as the DA’s mayoral candidate for the city, saying he needs five years to complete his turnaround plans and is confident voters will return him to office in the 2026 elections.

He highlighted past DA initiatives, such as leasing Tshwane’s power stations to private investors for 40 years to boost energy supply, blocking a R600 million salary increase to stabilise Eskom repayments, and resisting new taxes like the ANC-led coalition’s cleansing levy.
Brink accused the current coalition of lacking vision, focusing instead on populist issues like foreign-owned businesses and social media trends.
He said his vision is to attract investment, create vibrant spaces like Brooklyn’s The Village, and support local businesses rather than shutting them down.
