Cape Town – Former EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to suspend National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and immediately appoint KwaZulu-Natal police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as acting national commissioner.
Ndlozi argued that the summons against Masemola — linked to a R360 million SAPS tender involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala — is not about corruption but a Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) violation, warning that the move could be part of a broader effort to weaken investigations into organised crime within SAPS.
In a strongly worded post on X, Ndlozi said: “APPOINT GEN. NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI AS ACTING NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER NOW!”
APPOINT GEN. NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI AS ACTING NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER NOW!
Masemola is not being accused of CORRUPTION! IDAC is dragging him to court over PFMA violation.

He claimed the ultimate aim is to remove Masemola, leaving senior investigators exposed. “Once removed, the hope is that Khumalo & Mkhwanazi will be exposed. No one protecting their work anymore,” he said.
Ndlozi also linked the situation to the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team under former police minister Senzo Mchunu, calling it part of a broader attempt “to render criminal investigations of organised gangs and their collaborators” ineffective.
He urged Ramaphosa to act decisively, saying: “Ramaphosa has a duty to defend the credibility of the criminal justice system!”
Ndlozi further called for the suspension of both Masemola and the head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, insisting: “The criminals MUST NOT WIN!”
Masemola is due to appear in court on 21 April 2026. The Presidency has said it will handle the matter in accordance with the law, amid growing political pressure over the leadership of SAPS.
