Johannesburg – ActionSA is set to announce a merger with two unnamed political parties on Monday as part of its strategy to consolidate a united opposition ahead of this year’s local government elections.
Party spokesperson Matthew George said the move aims to strengthen a credible alternative capable of challenging established parties.
The announcement will be led by ActionSA president Herman Mashaba and senior party leaders, alongside representatives of the merging parties.
“Monday’s announcement marks another important milestone that highlights ActionSA’s growing appeal to South Africans across provinces who resonate with our fight to fix South Africa.

“This fight requires the consolidation and strengthening of a unified alternative capable of displacing the failed establishment parties ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections,” George said.
While the identities of the two parties have not been disclosed, the merger aligns with ActionSA’s broader plan to unite smaller opposition groups.
The development comes as ActionSA grapples with declining electoral support since its strong showing in the 2021 local elections.
In the 2024 national and provincial elections, the party’s support dropped to 1.2% nationally, although it retains 44 seats in the Johannesburg council until the 2026 local elections.
Earlier this year, ActionSA signalled its intent to absorb smaller parties, including Forum 4 Service Delivery, as it positions itself outside both the government of national unity and the Progressive Caucus.
