Cape Town – A 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Musina, Limpopo, after police found her in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, the woman was apprehended on Tuesday evening, 28 October 2025, following a tip-off about a possible firearm being kept at a rental property in Musina Phase 8.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that members from Musina visible policing and detectives followed up on the information and conducted a search at the identified premises.
“During the operation, the team recovered one black 9 mm pistol without a serial number, one magazine, and five rounds of ammunition. The firearm was found hidden inside a rental room,” he said.
The woman was immediately arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
She is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon.
Ledwaba added that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to curb the circulation of illegal firearms in the province.
“The police in Limpopo will continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations across the province to ensure that unlicensed firearms are removed from circulation,” he explained.
According to police, investigations are continuing to determine the origin of the firearm and whether the suspect could be linked to other criminal activities in the area.
