Upington – Police in Upington, Northern Cape, have opened an inquest following the discovery of the body of a 46-year-old woman inside a freezer at her home.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the body was found on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, at approximately 16:05.
“The police in Upington have registered an inquest docket for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 46-year-old female in a freezer at her residence in Upington,” SAPS said.
“Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was reported missing by her husband on 31 March 2026 at approximately 10:00
“After a search was launched for her, her body was discovered inside a deep freezer located in a storeroom at their residence on the same day.”
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with all available information set to form part of the probe.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Police have appealed to the public for assistance.
“Anyone with information can contact the Upington Detective unit… or alternatively via the MySAPSApp or the SAPS Crime Stop number,” SAPS said, adding that information will be treated confidentially.
