Tshwane – The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is bracing for an increase in traffic this weekend as holidaymakers return to the province, warning motorists to exercise caution amid the rainy season.
TMPD spokesperson Captain Thabo Mokoena said officers would be stationed at key points along major highways to monitor traffic, enforce road safety laws, and respond to emergencies.
“Reckless driving is a major concern during peak travel periods. There will be no tolerance for speeding, drunk driving, or any other dangerous behaviours that could put lives at risk,” Captain Mokoena said.
Authorities also cautioned drivers about the heightened risks posed by wet roads.

“As we navigate through the rainy season, road conditions may be more treacherous than usual. Wet roads can reduce traction and increase the likelihood of skidding or hydroplaning,” he added.
The TMPD urged motorists to drive at safe speeds, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and avoid sudden manoeuvres that could result in loss of control.
“It is crucial for motorists to take responsibility for their own safety by conducting pre-trip inspections on their vehicles. Checking tyre pressure, brakes, lights, and other essential components can prevent breakdowns and accidents on the road,” Captain Mokoena said.
The TMPD emphasised that strict measures will remain in place throughout the weekend to ensure the safety of all road users.
