Limpopo – An attempted robbery at a petrol filling station in Mabokelele, Limpopo, ended in chaos after security officers opened fire, forcing the suspects to flee, according to security activist Yusuf Abramjee.
“Attempted robbery at a petrol filling station in Mabokelele, Limpopo. The gang fled after security officers opened fire,” Abramjee (@Abramjee) wrote on X, posting video footage of the suspects running from the scene as gunshots are heard.
Social media users reacting to the incident offered mixed opinions on the guards’ actions. Some praised their effectiveness, while others criticized their shooting skills.
“6 went in, 5 came out and 2 got shot while escaping and one is definitely down as he did not go out. The security did not miss, well done,” wrote MATOME (@mmlets), suggesting that at least one suspect may have been injured during the failed robbery.

However, others questioned whether the guards acted appropriately. Journalist Luyolo Mkentane (@luyolomkentane) posted: “I’m so disappointed in the guards! Like, how do you miss, bro?! At this rate, they need a full refresher on firearms handling, target practice, the whole syllabus, nje! Because, wow!”
Hebert Banhire (@hbanhire) added: “The Security Officer/s needs to go for target practice today and not tomorrow but today,” while Christopher Moepi (@MKdonking) cautioned: “The aim was to scare them away, you can’t just shoot someone that’s unarmed.”
Others commented on the suspects’ frantic escape. “The last guy doesn’t seem to have understood that there’ll be running involved,” noted Thiathu Manenzhe (@thiathumanenzhe), with several users joking about the slow pace of the fleeing men.
At this stage, no official statement has confirmed whether any suspects were apprehended or injured.
