Durban – Police fired rubber bullets on 27 October 2025 to disperse protesters outside the Homii building in Durban, who were demanding accountability following the tragic fall of the Dlamini twins down a lift shaft earlier this month.
One twin died, while the other remains in hospital.
According to IOL, the emotional protest under #JusticeForDlaminiTwins brought together local residents, activists, and grieving family members, who criticised the police and building management for negligence and possible cover-ups.
Chanting, singing, and holding placards that read “Justice delayed is justice denied,” the demonstrators were eventually dispersed by police as the crowd grew.

The father of the twins, Khaya Dlamini, said there were no warning signs about the lift and criticised the police for mishandling the case, including losing the statement he gave and failing to follow up, The South African reported.
Dlamini also condemned Homii for offering only a teddy bear and grocery bag instead of support or answers, the report said.
Protesters, including March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, highlighted previous deaths at Homii properties, calling for police accountability and safer building management.

“Today, we are here to fix South Africa, and it will get better. We also want to take this moment to fight for those who have lost their lives in one of Homii’s buildings. We also want [KwaZulu-Natal Police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi] Mkhwanazi to give us answers as to why police are not doing their jobs,” the report quoted March and March leader and former Vuma FM radio presenter Jacinta Zinhle Ngobese-Zuma as saying.
KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
