Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has departed for Chicago in the United States of America where he will attend the funeral of civil rights leader and anti-apartheid campaigner Jesse Jackson.
The Presidency confirmed the president’s travel in a statement shared on social media, noting Jackson’s significant contribution to the global struggle against apartheid.
President Ramaphosa described Reverend Jackson as a tireless advocate whose campaigns against apartheid resonated internationally.

Ramaphosa referred to Jackson’s activism as representing a “towering contribution to the global anti-apartheid cause”, highlighting his “irrepressible campaigns against apartheid and his support for the liberation struggle”.
Jackson was widely known for his involvement in international civil rights movements and his solidarity with South Africa’s democratic transition.
The Presidency did not provide details on the duration of the president’s visit or the full delegation accompanying him.
