Cape Town – National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says police are closing in on those responsible for a series of high-profile killings in Gauteng.
These include the murders of Madlanga Commission witness Marius van der Merwe, Johannesburg-based DJ and activist Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, and the Saulsville mass shooting.
Van der Merwe was shot dead at his Brakpan home on 5 December in front of his family.
He was a witness at the Madlanga Commission, which is probing allegations of corruption, political interference and collusion in the criminal justice system.

DJ Warras was killed earlier this week in the Johannesburg CBD while working at a building his company had been contracted to secure.
In Saulsville, Tshwane, 12 people were killed and 13 injured during a mass shooting at an illegal tavern on 6 December.
Masemola said police investigations are on the right track and confirmed that a suspect in DJ Warras’ murder has been identified, with an arrest expected before Monday.
“He’s a known suspect… definitely – not today, but over the weekend – that suspect will be arrested,” he said.
Meanwhile, emotional tributes poured in for DJ Warras at a memorial service in Sandton, where his eldest son Ethan described him as a hero and role model, while his sister Nicole said his voice and legacy belonged not only to the family but to the nation.
