Cape Town – Sentencing in the high-profile case of missing child Joshlin Smith is set for Thursday, with accused Jacquen ‘Boeta’ Appollis, Steveno van Rhyn, and Kelly Smith awaiting their fate.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, State Advocate Zelda Swanepoel urged the Western Cape High Court to impose life imprisonment for the human trafficking conviction, highlighting the gravity of the case.
She reminded the court of the trauma inflicted on the community and the victim’s family, referencing emotional testimonies and calling van Rhyn a danger to society.
Judge Nathan Erasmus acknowledged the deep impact on Saldanha and advised the accused to prepare for transfer to maximum-security prisons.
