Johannesburg – A man who was filmed pouring water on a homeless person during Spring Day celebrations has apologised after the video sparked outrage online.
Thabang admitted his actions humiliated the man, Lindelani, and said he had only intended to celebrate the tradition of splashing water on September 1.
He visited Lindelani and his family to apologise, bringing food and toiletries as a gesture of regret,” Times Live reported.
“I apologise for what I did to you; I didn’t mean it,” Thabang said.

“I believed I was simply taking part in the Spring Day tradition, and I never meant to cause you harm. I now realise that my actions hurt you, your family, and many others. I am truly sorry for what I did and promise it won’t happen again. I also hope my mistake serves as a lesson to others.”
The incident has fuelled debate about the line between cultural celebration and disrespect, while other social media users have also donated food to support Lindelani.
