Cape Town – Fire crews in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, are battling vegetation fires that flared up on Wednesday morning, as authorities confirmed that several structures and vehicles have been destroyed and residents were evacuated overnight.
According to the Mossel Bay Municipality, emergency personnel conducted evacuations in the Aalwyndal area after the fire spread from surrounding vegetation into residential zones.

Affected areas include Aalwyndal, Island View and Vakansieplaas.
Ground and aerial firefighting teams were deployed on Wednesday as crews worked to contain renewed flare-ups, following intense firefighting operations through the night.

The N2 highway between the Langeberg Mall off-ramp and Dana Bay, which had been closed due to heavy smoke, has since reopened to traffic, the Joint Operations Centre confirmed.
Residents who were evacuated as a precautionary measure were moved to safety as flames threatened homes, with reports indicating that multiple houses and vehicles were damaged in the blaze.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, avoid affected areas, and follow official updates as firefighting operations continue. No fatalities have been reported at this stage.
